Outfitting your Fleming

At the Fleming Factory

It all starts in Taiwan with the layup of the hull and all of its components (three major molds and over 90 individual molds for things such as underside of hatches are used to produce a Fleming 55). Vinyl ester resins are used throughout the entire boat.

Here you see the black gel coat (sprayed over the white) being covered with a special fiberglass tissue to give the exterior a smooth finish and prevent print through.

A little over 5 months time will pass and a new Fleming 55 will be ready for it's journey to Maryland

Loading a Fleming 55 on ship

After being unloaded from it's long journey from Taiwan to Baltimore, this Fleming 55 is being prepared for launch. This will be the first time the boat ever has touched water.

Having arrived at our facility on the South River, your new Fleming begins it's 8 to 12 week transformation into one of the most elegantly equipped yachts on the water today.

First thing, the boat is hauled back out of the water. Bow thruster is installed as well as stabilizer fins and accuators, thru-hulls are installed for any optional equipment such as watermakers, second generators and transducers.

After returning to the water, the electronics (that have been previously been chosen and laid out by the owner) are cut in, wired and tested, other optional equipment is installed and tested. The tender is installed, canvas and offshore equipment installed. Teak is sanded, sealed and varnished, interior, exterior and engine room is detailed and waxed.

Just before the decor is installed the boat is taken out for a "shakedown" to ensure all electronics, computer and compasses are calibrated and interfaced properly.

Finally the last touch to your new Fleming is the decor. The standard Fleming decor is put back or could be customized to suit your tastes.

The day has finally arrived. It was nearly a year ago when this hull was born from drums of resin and many yards of fiberglass. Now it has emerged from many stages of transformations to cruise the world at it's owners whim. It is a happy day for the family of Burr Yacht Sales to see their hard work and dedication from the smiles on the faces of the latest Fleming 55 owners as they leave our yard. Hull 167 shown below.
